I have joined the Castello lab where I am completing an 18-week lab project as part of the final year of my Masters in Biochemistry at Oxford. My project will build upon previous work in obtaining the RNA-bound proteome in mammalian cells and the identification of up- and down-regulated proteins upon Sindbis virus infection. I will be studying a number of these regulated proteins to understand their protein-protein interactions natively and how this may change in the presence of virus. I will also be attempting to identify changes in post-translational modification of the proteins of interest upon virus infection. To perform my investigations I will be incorporating techniques such as cloning, immunoprecipitation and mass spectrometry.
I am very much enjoying my time in the lab so far; I am learning many new skills and I am relishing the challenges I am now facing.
